Federation

The federation of Australia was the process by which the separate British Self –government colonies of Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria , Tasmania , South Australia and Western Australia agreed to unite and form the Commonwealth of Australia establishing a system of federalism in Australia .

Federation. Australia became an independent nation on 1 January 1901 when the British parliament passed legislation allowing six Australia colonies to govern in their own right as part of the commonwealth of Australia.

The father of Federation

Henry Parkes ( 1815-1896 ) is often called the father of federation for his role as a long – time fighter for Federation.

The process that brought about Federation

Between 1891-1901 there had been no freedom struggle, no war of independence just many meetings, and encouragement from London.
